The 4th State-Level Eeru Hei Kumhei (Watermelon Festival) kicked off at the market complex in Sunusiphai, Moirang on Monday.
Organised by Farmers' Club of Sunusiphai, the festival aims to promote sustainable agricultural practices and celebrate the region's thriving watermelon cultivation.

Farmers, community elders, and local residents gathered in large numbers to mark the commencement of the festival.
In his opening address, Prithviraj praised the farmers of Sunusiphai and surrounding villages for their dedication to organic farming and their significant contributions to household economies.
He commended their efforts in producing high-quality watermelons and other vegetables at reasonable prices and urged them to explore smarter marketing strategies for their produce.
He further emphasised the importance of government support and intervention to sustain watermelon and vegetable cultivation, while calling for increased assistance from the department of horticulture & soil conservation.
Expressing concern over the impact of the ethnic unrest, he lamented the loss of cattle of local farmers due to terrorist activities.
He assured the farmers that the Governor had been approached regarding compensation for these losses.
