BSEM seeks police help in arresting 'guilty' teachers

Imphal, June 21 2014 : The Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) has requested the SP Imphal West to institute an investigation on the misplacement of answer scripts and submission of blank answer scripts for 5 candidates in the HSLC examination 2014 .

The official letter of BSEM Controller of Examination S.Mangijao Singh written to SP Imphal pointed out that all the answer scripts of five students of Irabot High School at Ukhongshang, who had appeared the HSLC examination 2014 from the Irong Private Centre in Yairipok, were submitted for examination to the BSEM in blank.

The five candidates are Laishram Ichan (Roll no.23003), Maibam Priya Chanu (Roll no.23006), Naorem Chanchan (roll no.23010), Phamdom Sonia (Roll no.23011) and Thangjam Sarju Devi (Roll no.23015) .

The answer scripts of the five girl students were found to be totally blank, except the cover page on which the signatures of the invigilator and the OC/AOC of the examination centre are marked as usual.

The names and roll numbers of the candidates were also written on the cover page, the BSEM mentioned.

When the results were declared, the five students were awarded only zero mark in the Manipuri subject.

Later on, following requests for re-examination of their answer scripts and on further investigation, it was found out that the handwritings of candidates appeared on the attendance sheet and those on the answer script cover were different.

Moreover, signatures of invigilator on the answer scripts were found to be different from the signatures on the attendance sheet.

It also appears that the same handwriting was used to write the names and roll numbers of candidates for all the five answer sheets.

The BSEM has prima facie, suspected that the original answer sheets of the five candidates were substituted with blank sheets prior to submission to BSEM from the examination centre, according to the letter which also disclosed the names of OC and AOC of the examination centre concerned as M.Birachandra Singh, Head Master of Irabot High School, Ukhongshang and S.Senyai, Principal of Eastern Blooming Flower School, Ukhongshang.

The letter requested the SP Imphal West to conduct investigations into the matter and punish the guilty.

Meanwhile, according to sources, there is evidence proving that the submitted answer scripts of the five candidates were not the original sheets.

On the submitted answer sheet of Phamdom Sonia (Roll no.23011), her name is written as 'Phamdon Soniya', while on the attendance sheet it is written as 'Phamdom Sonia' .

Moreover, the signature of the invigilator found on the answer sheet is also different from that appeared on the attendance sheet.

It is evident from these evidences that some teachers intentionally planned to prevent the girl students from passing the HSLC examination.
