Pherzawl, November 12 2025:
A massive protest rally was taken out at Lungthulien village, in Pherzawl District today, as villagers expressed outrage over the alleged misuse of Job Card Material costs by the Lungthulien Village Authority (VA) Chairman and Secretary.
Protesters also accused the VA of favoritism in selecting beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) housing scheme.
The rally followed an emergency meeting convened by the SDO, Parbung, at 7 pm on November 11 at the Lungthulien Community Hall.
The meeting, attended by representatives of CSOs and VA members, reportedly failed to reach a resolution, as the SDO allegedly denied the CSOs' request to address their grievances.
Villagers are now demanding fresh elections or the dissolution of the current Village Authority, citing The Manipur (Village Authorities in Hill Areas) Act, 1956 .
They have also threatened to approach higher authorities and demand an official investigation into the alleged misappropriation of Job Card Material funds if their demands are not met.
The rally drew a large turnout reflecting widespread discontent among residents.
According to local sources, the Lungthulien CSOs are prepared to assist in a spot investigation to ensure transparency and accountability in the matter.
