Imphal, August 07 2023:
The situation remained tense in the State in the last 24 hours with sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of protesters, said Police Control Room.
Exchange of fire with armed miscreants occurred at Mualngat, Terakhongsangbi areas, Gothol, Pholjang and Kwakta Ward No 8 areas.
Security forces retaliated and repelled the miscreants.
Security forces conducted search operations in the adjoining areas and recovered 9 arms.
Separately, security forces conducted search operations at Lanza-Khodang area today and recovered several arms including two 303 Rifles, one 51mm Mortar, one tear gas gun, 17 smoke candles, three CM Mag, three tear gas rounds, nine tear gas (hand grenades), 332 rubber bullets, four 12 Bore Rifles, one Muzzle loaded Rifle.
Meanwhile, one person was arrested from Chassad Avenue, Checkon, Imphal East while he was allegedly stealing from one abandoned house.
The person has been remanded to judicial custody.
In the last 24 hours, congregations of protesters were reported from different locations in the five valley districts.
State police took up necessary security measures to prevent any untoward incident, said the PCR.
A total of 122 Nakas/checkpoints were installed in both the hill and the valley areas.
Police detained 843 persons in connection with violations in different districts.
Further, movement of 260 vehicles on NH-37 and 310 vehicles on NH-2 with essential items were ensured, added the PCR.
It appealed public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos.

The police appealed to members of the public to return looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or to the nearest security forces immediately.
