Fish farmers awareness programme and distribution of fisherman cards held

Bishnupur, January 07 2025:
The Department of Fisheries, Government of Manipur in collaboration with Sinheibi Development Organisation organized a Fish Farmers' Awareness Programme cum Distribution ofFisherman cards under National Fisheries Digital Platform (NFDP) at Haoreng Chingang Community Hall, Thanga-I on Monday.
The programme was attended by M Asnikumar, chairman of Loktak Development Authority (LDA) along with several notable dignitaries, including Elangbam Rameshwor Singh, District Fishery Officer, Bishnupur, N Dinesh Singh, Zila Parishad member, Thanga and Dr Yaima Singh, retd Deputy Director of ICMR.
A large number of community leaders, women, and members of fishing communities from Thanga also participated in the programme.
As part of the event, fisherman cards were distributed to over 600 fishermen; recognized by the Government of India.
These cards come with significant benefits, including free life insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakhs and access to various welfare schemes under the PM-MKSSY.
Speaking on the occasion, M Asnikumar highlighted the commitment of both the Central Government and State Government under N Biren Singh to the welfare of fishing communities.
"Todays' initiative is one of many steps towards achieving sustainable growth in the fisheries sector and ensuring the prosperity of our fishing communities," he added.
He also lauded the efforts of the Department of Fisheries, Government of Manipur and Sinheibi Development Organisation for their efforts in organising the programme and for their dedication to uplifting the fishing communities in Manipur.
The event underscores the Government's vision of transforming the fisheries sector through financial and technological interventions, fostering institutional reforms, and enabling sustainable, long-term growth.
