Foundation stone for water supply scheme laid

Khurai AC MLA, Leishangthem Susindro laid the foundation stone for construction of a water supply scheme (phase-1) at Khurai Sajor Leikai today.
The scheme is to be constructed as a part of the Manipur Water Supply Project implemented at the cost of Rs 3054.58 crore funded by New Development Bank.
The water supply scheme being undertaken by Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Manipur will help people of the Assembly segment including, Sajor Leikai, Thongam Leirak, Laishram Leirak, Chaithabi Leirak, Ningthoukhong Leikai etc, get access to clean drinking water at their homes.
The water supply scheme will have an overhead tank of 0.6 million capacity and a service reservoir with 0.2 million capacity pumping arrangement.
During the foundation laying programme organised by PHED, the MLA said that the people of Khurai have been struggling for many basic amenities for years including clean and potable water and added that the water supply scheme which will be completed in one year or so, will cater the need and help people save additional money they have been spending to get water.
The MLA who is also the Chairman of MSPDCL and LDA said that he is quite surprised by reactions of some MLAs following the Ministry reshuffle in the State.
Susindro also questioned why MLAs, who have come out to represent and serve the people, should be happy or sad on being inducted into or dropped from the Council of Ministers.
Defending the recent reshuffle as impartial, Susindro said that two former Congress MLAs were inducted into the Council of Ministers in recognition of their sacrifices and immense contributions in helping BJP sponsored Rajya Sabha candidate secure the lone seat.
He further said that it was unfortunate to see BJP workers of some ACs protesting against the reshuffle under the 'instigation' of MLAs who have been dropped from the Council of Ministers.
Saying that all MLAs cannot be allotted Ministerial berths, he expressed hope that the newly inducted Ministers will surely look after Khurai AC as well as other Assembly segments in the State equally.
The people of Khurai have been at the forefront in facing many issues, he said and asked all concerned not to forget Khurai.
The MLA also remarked that he is happy to see the project (water supply scheme) materialising and assured that phase-II of the same project is in the pipeline and hunt for suitable place is underway.
A monitoring committee to look after the progress of the construction work has also been instituted, he said while asserting that political influences at times hinder development works in the AC.
Saying that the AC is not solely for the MLA, he also sought support from all sections to ensure any development work taken up or allotted in the AC is not obstructed.
He also highlighted his achievements during the programme and further said that development works, including repairing and construction of roads, as aspired by the people will be completed in the coming days.
KSWC's founder member, Thongam Ibouchou also attended the programme as functional president.
