Imphal, May 23 2017:
ACOAM LUP and Unemployed Pharmacists Association of Manipur (UPAM) have warned all the illegal pharmacies in the State to close shop within five days.
Speaking to media persons at ACOAM LUP office at Lamphelpat, opposite DC Office, UPAM president Thongbam Baleshwar said that pharmacies are mushrooming all over the State without any way to ascertain which ones are legal and which ones are illegal.
He said that most of the pharmacies in Manipur seem to be operating without the necessary documents.
Earlier, the pharmacies used to operate under restricted license but this practice has gradually faded.
He pointed out that the number of pharmacies run by qualified pharmacists and with all the necessary documents and license seem to be low and added that most of the complications and problems are the results of pharmacies operating under hired licenses.
Such types of illegal pharmacies also contribute greatly to the rise of drug abuse and trafficking in the State, he added.
Baleshwar said that ACOAM LUP and UPAM will launch inspection drives and lodge FIRs against the illegal pharmacies and also against the authority concerned which issued the illegal licenses to these pharmacies and further appealed to the people and the Government for support.
ACOAM LUP working president Chandramani Khumancha said that the organisations decided to launch the inspection drive after receiving complaints from customers who claimed that some pharmacies issued some makeshift cash memo when they asked for the cash memo for buying medicines.
He warned all the illegal pharmacies to close shop within five days adding that the organisations would take up strict and necessary actions against those who fail to heed the warning.
