Ukhrul residents revamp neglected eastern circular road, seek Govt attention for all weather road

Ukhrul, August 17 2019: The residents of Seipet Zingsho, eastern circular road Khongailong today repaired the Eastern Circular Road that connects the locality with the Ukhrul town main highway.

According to them, the eastern circular road which was constructed ten years ago is in a pathetic state, making commuters difficult to walk on the muddy and slushy road throughout the rainy reason, while in the dry season the road became dusty to travel.

The residents of Seipet have been enduring immense hardship due to purported negligence by the concerned department.

According to the reports of M Luikham, chairman of Seipet Tang, the road was easily destroyed due to erratic flow and stagnant of water on the road during the rainy season as no drainage was constructed for running water.

He said that the locality hired excavator and cleared the uneven portion, constructed drainage and levelled the road.

According to him, every household of Seipet Tang living below the eastern circular road and Ukhrul ADC member HA Vareishang contributed money for repairing the damaged road spanning about 500 metres.

He mentioned that the localities have approached the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul in different occassion and even submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister N Biren Singh last year to restore the road, considering the inconveniences of the people plying along the road.

Though the State Government has sanctioned fund for repairing the eastern circular road, no visible improvement can be seen, he said, adding that the transformer installed at Seipet Tang was also damaged last year.

Stating that they have informed the concerned office many time for installation of transformer yet nothing has been done so far and the locals are still living without electricity, he urged the State Government to develop and repair the eastern circular road into all weather road as the road is one of the important alternative route of Ukhrul town that connect all the eastern localities.
