Imphal, December 12 2010: As part of the Military Action Programme of the army, troops of 16th Maratha Light Infantry posted at Songdo post presented Gym equipments to the youths of Ngangkhalawai under Bishnupur district today.

The handover function of the equipments organized by the Helping Hand Trust, Ngangkhalawai was held at the Ngangkhalawai Community Hall.

CO of the Songdo post of 16th MLI, Col Prashant Chauwan graced the function as chief guest.

Pradhan, Ngangkhalawai Gram Panchayat, P Joylali presided over the function.

Editor, Hueiyen Lanpao Meetei Mayek, M Shivadutta Luwang, retired section officer, Electricity, M Apabi and Upa-Pradhan, Ngangkhalawai GP, H Nungshitombi also attended the function as guests of honour.

Newly appointed 13 IPS officers who have been undergoing training in the post also attended the function.

In a speech, Shivadutta said that the development works taken up under the MCA of the para military forces seems to be outnumbering the development works of the state government.

MCA of the army is a good step in their counter insurgency operations.

He further said that lately Manipur Police has also started civic action programmes to create good relations with the civilians.

Distribution of blankets and monetary aids to the poor and needy people and giving support to the poor students to pursue their studies by DGP, Y Joykumar will help in creating better relations between the civilians and the police force.

CO Prashant Chauwan said that the current insurgency problem is a major hindrance in the development of the state.

He appealed to the people of the state to cooperate with the army to stop the various kinds of extortion by the UG groups.

Army is here to protect the lives and wealth of the civilians.

Parents should guide their children to the right path of life.

He said that he is planning to conduct pre recruitment training of unemployed youths and dristribute embroidery machines to the girls of the area.

He asked the villagers to inform him if there are any orphans in the village so that he can arrange for free education for them in the Army School at Leimakhong.
