Motor accidents at two different locations along the Imphal-Moreh section of national Highway 39 have claimed the lives of three persons while six others
suffered injuries.
As per police report, at around 9 am today two occupants of a maruti Van were killed and five other companions, including four women have been injured following a head-on collision with a Mini truck near Sora Chingjin under Kakching police station of Thoubal district.
The two victims have been identified as Lunkhongam Haokip (18) s/o Semjathang of Pallel and Jilmang Haokip (49) s/o Shokhothang of Sinam village.
Lunkhongam passed away at RIMS Hospital while Jilmang died on the spot.
The injured persons, who are all from Sinam village near Pallel bazar, have been identified as Tonglet Haokip (40) s/o Jamkholen, Chongpi (36) w/o Jilmang, Lhingboi (34) w/o Tongkholal, Hoinu (28) d/o Douzathang and Kimboi (20) d/o Thongkhosei.
It is informed that the maruti Van, driven by Lunkhongam, was coming towards Imphal when the accident took place.
Driver of the Mini truck has been taken into custody by Kakching police.
About half an hour earlier, in another motor mishap at Lilong Chajing area, which is also along the same highway, a student on a motorbike was killed while the pillion rider has been injured and is currently undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital.
The victim namely Md Abocha alias Amu (15) s/o Allauddin of Lilong Kaleikhong and his friend Md Sadam (16) were coming towards Canchipur to collect class XI admission form from Standard Robarth English Higher Secondary School when they were hit by a Tata Magic coming from the opposite direction near Lilong higher Secondary School.
Registration number of the Tata magic could not ascertained.
Abocha, who passed HSLC exam this year, reportedly died on the spot.
Singjamei police have registered a case on the matter.
