Satyabhama killing case solved
Source: Hueiyen News Service

Imphal, April 09 2013: A day after James called up the office of Hueiyen Lanpao to plead his innocence and his subsequent contact and surrender to SP of Imphal West district with the help of the daily, Manipur police on Tuesday claimed to have cracked the sensational murder case of Ningombam Satyabama along with arresting three culprits including James.

Addressing a press conference at the office of the SP here today, DGP Y Joykumar said that in connection with the killing, two persons namely Kshetrimayum Biju alias Holendro (28), s/o Ksh Ibochou of Irilbung Thongkhong and Thoudam Jiban (27), s/o late Th Thoiba of Irilbung Machahal Mayai Leikai were arrested by the police yesterday while Toijam Thesis alias Aboi alias James (27) was arrested today morning.

The DGP further informed that after a thorough investigation and interrogation of the three persons, it was known that Ningombam Satyabhama was killed by Kshetrimayum Biju and Biju has also admitted to the crime.

However, there is no evidence as of now to prove that James and Jiban are also involved in the killing.

The three are married family men.

Quoting the statement of Biju, DGP Y Joykumar stated that Satyabhama and James were having love affair for the last three months.

During their courtship, James had never told Satyabhama about his marital status and that he already had a kid.

As their relationship grew, they indulged in sex on March 15.On that day, James had asked Satyabhama for eloping.

But Satyabhama denied saying that it was not an auspicious day.

After this incident, James also changed his mind and sought the help of one of his closest friends, Biju, to make Satyabhama stayed away from him.

Accordingly, James gave the mobile phone number of Satyabhama to Biju.

As asked by his friend, Biju called up Satyabhama and informed her that James eloped another women and it would be better for her to forget him.

However, Satyabhama insisted Biju to let her meet James at least once.

Taking advantage of the pleading of Satyabhama, Biju called her out on the intervening night of April 2 and 3 on the pretext of taking her to James.

Keeping all her faith on Biju, Satyabhama came out of her home with some of her cloths wrapped in a bag.

Biju picked her up from her gate in a Mahindra Rodeo (MN 01Y 6310) .

On the way, Biju tried to take advantage of Satyabhama and forced to have physical contact twice.

But on both occasions, Satyabhama managed to escape and spurned his advances.

But on the third attempt, there were some pulling and pushing in which Biju lost his balance and vehicle skidded off the road.

In the process, Satyabhama sprained her ankle.

The accident took place near a waiting shed at Bashikhong.

Even at that point of time, Biju still tried to take advantage of Satyabhama and a scuffle broke out between the two.

In that act, Biju strangulated Satyabhama to death with the scarf she was wearing.

Afterward, Biju took the dead body of Satyabhama on his vehicle and abandoned it at Wangkhei Loumanbi Loukon.

During the initial stage of interrogation, Biju told a number of lies following which Thoudam Jiban was arrested along with his Maruti Car (AS 01-0397).Biju claimed that he used the Maruti car of Jiban in dumping the body.

However, after James surrendered to the police and separate interrogations were carried out, it was known that James and Jiban were not involved in calling out Satyabhama from her house on that fateful night, DGP Joykumar said, adding that the trio were produced before the Court and remanded them to police custody till April 15 .

Members of the JAC formed against the killing of N Satyabhama were also present during the press conference.

Minutes after members of JAC went out from the SP's office; irate mob thronged at the home of Biju and destroyed it.

The angry mob also proceeded towards the house of James and Jiban and burnt them down to ashes.

They also torched a neighbouring house of James for alleging keeping all the belongings of James.

The ill-fated neighbouring house belongs to one Koijam Shamungou.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Ningombam Satyabhama Devi has decided not to claim the body until all its demands are fulfilled.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the JAC at the community hall of Bo-Lampak, Kakwa Selungba Leikai today afternoon.

After a serious deliberation on the latest development in the case, the meeting unanimously decided to exert pressures on the Government for taking up necessary measures to ensure speedy conduct of criminal proceeding against the arrested culprits for passing the final judgment within a month's time, award capital punishment if they were found guilty, to urge all lawyers in the State not to take up the case in favour of the accused and to continue the ongoing agitations for fulfilling these demands.

The police had fired several rounds of tear gas shells to control and quell them.

The protesters also blocked National Highway-2 (Imphal-Dimapur raod) at Kakwa and Canchipur.

It is said that James is only a small time contractor while Biju is a man with no stable job.

Biju has been married for two years but has no children.

He is in the habit of quarrelling with his wife frequently.

As a result, his wife stayed at her maternal home most of the time.

Jiban is also a married man and contested in the last Panchayat election for the post of member.
