Imphal, August 01 2010: One cadre of KCP (Lamphel) who came to abduct the Head of Orthopaedic Department, JN Hospital Dr Kangujam Nilachandra has been apprehended by police commandos.

On the other hand, unidentified persons opened fire at the residence of Dr Laishram Sukumar, Gynaecology Specialist at JN Hospital.

Briefing media persons about the first incident at commando complex here today, Imphal West Deputy SP (Commando) S Ibomcha said that two youngsters came to the Sega Road, Khwairakpam Leikai residence of Dr Nilachandra at about 6.30 this morning and attempted to abduct the doctor at gun point.

Before making the abduction attempt, one of the two youngsters who wielded a small arm threatened a pharmacist at the gate of Dr Nilachandra's residence.

They also pointed their gun towards the doctor's wife and a labourer working at the doctor's residence.

However, Dr Nilachandra managed to run away from his house.

The two youngsters pursued the doctor but they were also chased by the neighbouring people.

At this, the two youngsters fled after firing two rounds of shots.

At Keishampat Leimajam Leikai, the armed persons hijacked a Kinetic Honda scooter (MN-01E/2934) from one RK Premila and drove away.

On learning about the incident, Imphal West commandos launched an intensive search.

The commandos succeeded in locating the hijacked scooter at Kwakeithel Moirang Purel a about 7.24 am and nabbed a KCP cadre from there, Ibomcha said.

One pistol containing four live rounds of 9 mm calibre were recovered from the apprehended cadre identified as Thangjam Kiranjit alias Boy alias Chingkheinganba (26) s/o Nila of Hojai Udoypur, Assam.

According to his disclosure, the other cadre who escaped is self-styled valley commander of KCP (Lamphel), Sougrakpam Nelson alias Sushil Meitei alias Bhoot Makok alias Bhaimacha (26) s/o Parijat of Sega Road, Jailor Leirak.

Notably, 11 cadres of the same outfit who were involved in firing and delivering extortion notes at Dr Nilachandra's home were arrested by police led by the then Imphal West SDPO Ibomcha in February this year.

Meanwhile, a protest demonstration was staged near Hodam Lairembi complex today denouncing the firing at the Keishamthong Hodam Leirak residence of JN Hospital Gynaecology specialist Dr Laishram Sukumar.

Unidentified persons fired a shot at the residence of the doctor in the night of July 29 .

However, there is no report of any casualty.

About a month back, a demand note of Rs two lakhs was delivered to Dr Sukumar's family by a faction of KCP-MC.

But the demand note was over-written by hand with a new name and address after erasing the previous printed ones with ink-remover.

Just two/three days ahead of the firing attack, one unidentified youngster showed a hand grenade to a family member of Dr Sukumar.
