32nd Shumang Leela Workshop begins at Iboyaima Sanglen

Imphal, July 20 2026: A one-month-long 32nd Shumang Leela Workshop organised by Manipur State Shumang Leela Council began on Monday at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Sanglen, Palace Compound, Imphal.

Joint Director, Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur, G Dharmadash Sharma attended the inaugural function as chief guest, while Manipur State Shumang Leela Council president Hawaibam Budhi presided over the event.

Delivering the keynote address, G Dharmadash Sharma expressed his desire to establish a traditional School of Shumang Leela.

He urged artists to avail the benefits of the workshop and assured Government support from the State side.

Project director of the workshop Sougrakpam Hemanta said the workshop initiated by late Padmashri Naba Wareppa has so far produced many artists and helped in reviving the traditional form of Shumang Leela.

Eminent personalities from Shumang Leela and Theatre will attend as resource persons and conduct classes on various topics during the one-month workshop.
