Imphal, November 15 2024:
The JAC formed by Kumbi Setupur Ima Sintha Leima Lup has appealed the relevant authority to launch a thorough investigation into the alleged suspicious death of one Khangembam Ningol Nongthonbam (Ongbi) Manileima (26) on November 10 .
Reportedly, Manileima, who hails from Kumbi Setupur Mayai Leikai, was found hung to death under allegedly questionable circumstances at her in-laws' residence at Awang Sekmai New Market around 2 pm on the fateful day.
Speaking to media persons during a press briefing at Manipur Press Club today, Wahengbam Panchamani, JAC member, shared that a local of Awang Sekmai New Market informed the deceased woman's father about her death at her husband Nongthombam Deny's residence.
Upon arriving at the inlaws' residence, they found that Manileima's husband was suspiciously not at home.
Further, the JAC member raised questions about the death stating that the deceased sported many bruises/contusions on her body which made them doubtful that she took her own life.
Notably, Wahengbam Panchamani also recalled earlier instances of the woman being allegedly abused by her husband.
In view of all these circumstances, the JAC member informed that it will not claim the mortal remains of the deceased until justice is delivered and the facts and circumstances leading to her death are established.
She also called upon the relevant authority to avoid handing over the dead body to other parties.
In this connection, she further sought the help and support of the public and civil society organisations to ensure that the Investigating Officer of the case and other concerned officials conduct a thorough investigation.
It is worth noting that Manileima leaves behind two young daughters, aged 6 and 9 years old.
