Bishnupur, June 14 2024:
A protest demonstration was staged today at Ningthoukhong Keithel against the failure of the Government to resolve the ongoing crisis in the State and the activities of the Security forces in the crisis.
Shops and market places remain closed during the sit-in protest which was organised by Ningthoukhong Protection Committee (NPC).
Women vendors of Ningthoukhong Keithel, NPC women wing members, shopkeepers and residents of different Wards of Ningthoukhong Municipal Council participated in the protest.
During the protest, placards which read 'Remove incompetent Security Advisor, Chief Secretary and DG at the earliest', 'Withdraw Assam Rifles from Manipur', 'Save the Indigenous people of Manipur', 'We strongly condemn burning down of Meitei houses by Kukis', Implement NRC immediately' etc and similar slogans were raised by the protestors.
Speaking in connection with the protest, NPC Women Wing president RK Tombisana said that the tragic ethnic violence which erupted in May last year have caused immense damage to the lives and properties of the people of Manipur.
Though the violence has been going on for more than a year, no concrete measures have been taken up by the Government to resolve the ethnic crisis, she lamented.
She expressed, 'The Chief Minister and his council of Ministers under the aegis of the Central Government have failed terribly in delivering their duties with regards to the ethnic crisis in the State'.
In the context of the recent flare up of violence in Jiribam, RK Tombisana said, 'The security forces failed to protect the properties of the Manipuris in Jiribam since they allegedly took a passive stance against the atrocities of Kuki miscreants'.
Since the Government and the relevant authorities are unable to safeguard the people, let the masses protect themselves, she said.
