Extensive anti-CAB protests carried out at different districts

Different CSOs and Meira Paibis in Moreh imposed a total shutdown in Moreh town and staged a sit in protest at Moreh Bazar to express strong opposition against the attempt to pass the Bill in the Rajya Sabha.
One of the protesters, while speaking to media persons on the sideline of the protest, said that the attempt to enact the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 amidst the issue of influx of illegal migrants has only caused more fear and panic among the indigenous people of the North East.
The people in Moreh will fight back if the Bill passed in the Rajya Sabha, the protester added.
One Meira Paibi has conveyed that the Government should not toy with the sentiments of the people and withdraw the Bill immediately.
In Thoubal and Bishnupur districts, agitations against CAB were witnessed at different parts of district from the early morning in which people shouted slogans, blocked roads and staged sit in protests.
Thoubal: The agitations in Thoubal district took place at melaground Yairipok Lamkhai, Thoubal Athokpam Bazar, Khangabok Bazar, Thoubal Wangbal, Wangjing Bazar among other areas.
Thoubal district police have been deputed at probable locations to prevent any unwanted situation and CrPC 144 has been imposed in the district, although curfew has not been called.
Meanwhile, sit in protests were staged at Lilong Waithou, Leishangthem, Khekman, Sabaltongba, Thoubal bazar, Kshetri Leikai, Phouden, Wangkhem, Yairipok and Charangpat.
Effigies of PM Modi and CM Biren were burned by locals of Charangpat Nepra Company and at Thoubal Haokha.
On the other hand, clubs and organisations of Singa and Huidrom Leikai organised sit in protest under the aegis of PAM.
Similar protest was held at Lilong Bazar.
Arapti Maning Leikai Women Association and Arapti Ebudhou Pureiromba Women Development Association staged a protest demonstration at Lilong Arapti Lamkhai.
Meira Paibis of Wangkhem Muslim, Wangkhem Moirangsari, Huidrom Leikai, ELYSA Club, Mira Paibis' also held similar protest at Thoubal Wangkhem and Moirangpalli respectively.
Aggrieved locals, while condemning the Citizenship Amendment Bill, blocked the NH 102 near Thoubal Keithel and stayed the night.
The same group of people took out a rally 'and burned the effigies of PM Narendra Modi and CM N Biren.
Bishnupur: Similar mode of protests were also taken up at different parts of Bishnupur district where the Nh 150 (Tiddim road) was blocked by locals from Nambol till Torbung and from Moirang till Wangoo.
Most parts of the district carried a deserted look where many prominent market places and business establishments remained shut all day.
WARD club and WILL club organised a sit in protest at Ithai Wapokpi community hall followed by burning of PM and CM's effigies.
The people shouted slogans condemning the BJP and CAB 2016.Kumbi Apunba Nupi Lup and women vendors of Kumbi Keithel blocked the road at the main Keithel of Kumbi.
Ithai Modern Civilization Club and Ithai Khunou Meira Paibi organised a public meeting and took out a protest rally from Ithai Khunou till Kumbi bazar.
The rally after reaching Kumbi Bazar joined with other womenfolk and continued the rally till Kumbi Sandhong.
Co-ordinating Committee of Meira Paibi clubs and organisation Wangoo, All Boryangbi Villagers Laingoubi Sagang Area Boryangbi Meira Paibi Clubs, Wangoo Apunba Meira Paibi Clubs and organisations, Chingmi Tammi Hindu Muslim Peace Women Association, Wangoo Naodakhong ward no 2 Meira Lup, Wangoo Maning Sabal Apunba Meira Paibi, clubs.
Various Meira Paibis, clubs, organisations and locals carried out extensive protest agitations in different locations of the district giving its clear cut response to the passing of CAB.
Silchar: On the other hand, denouncing the CAB 2016, members of Assam Indigenous People Protection Committee (AIPPC) Assam launched a relay hunger strike at Modhuraful, Silchar today morning.
AIPPC president Monmahan Barma, AIPPC general secretary Seram Herajit, Ema Sanathoi, vice president Shadev Rajbangsi, organisation secretary O Lakhikanta are taking part in the strike among others.
AIPPC general secretary Seram Herajit said that the organisation will continue its relay hunger strike until the Bill is withdrawn.
Kakching: Volunteers of Joint Non Government Voluntary Organisation Kakching, All Kakching Students Union, United Organisation Kakching, Kakching Keithel Apunba Ima Lup, AMSU, DESAM, SUK burned the effigies of Primer Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister N Biren at two different locations.
Later, the volunteers were made to turn back when they stormed the residence of Kakching constituency MLA Y Surchandra at Kakching Turel Wangma.
JIRIBAM: A State-wide total shutdown called by Manipur People Against Citizen Amendment Bill (MANPAC) and the one called at Jiribam for 38 hours by MANPAC-Jiribam have severely affected the functioning of normal activities in the district.
All the shops, markets, Govt offices and business establishment remained closed during the shutdown which began yesterday and concluded this evening at 6 pm while an effigy of PM Modi was kindled by a suspected bandh supporters this evening at Babupara, Jiribam.
The shutdown ended by taking out a public torch rally against the legislation.
The rally started from Jiribam bridge with a slogans like "Long live Manipur", "BJP Govt down down", "Withdraw CAB" and proceeded towards PWD office before culminating it at Babupara railway crossing.
Meanwhile, MANPAC-Jiribam convenor said that several mass protests, will be launched at Jiribam from tomorrow onwards against the legislation unless a positive result is brought by the Government.
Jiribam Police were on high vigil and took up several security measures in the district to prevent any unwanted incidents.
