71st Wildlife Week Celebration continues

The celebration of 71st Wildlife Week continued in different parts of the State.
It is set to conclude on October 8 .
BISHNUPUR
In continuation of the Wildlife Week Celebration 2025, Bishnupur Forest Division launched a targeted awareness campaign involving the installation of posters and signboards across key vulnerable areas within its jurisdiction.
The initiative was bolstered by the active participation of students, local residents, and wildlife enthusiasts from the region.
The initiative was designed to instil public love for wildlife and reinforce anti-poaching measures, specifically aimed at curbing the illegal hunting and trapping of deer, migratory birds and other wildlife.
It also underscored the urgent need to protect vulnerable species from threats such as illegal hunting and trapping.
The DFO of Bishnupur Forest Division has appealed to the public to actively support the campaign and to remain vigilant.
CHANDEL
Under the theme of "Human-Wildlife Coexistence", DFO, Chandel organised the celebration of Wildlife Week today with the participation of students and teachers of Little Pearls School, Chakpikarong and Forest staff.
Main highlights of the event include a foot rally and a tree plantation drive where a total of 180 saplings were planted.
The celebration was graced by Reuben Dausel, RFO, Chakpikarong; Kh Mate, Beat Officer, Khengjoi Beat Office and T Thomas Anal, Beat Officer, Nungpan Range Forest Office.
NONEY
In celebration of World Wildlife Week 2025, the Noney Forest Division organized an engaging quiz event for the students, banner and poster campaign on wildlife conservation, village level awareness and interaction with frontline staff and bird watching and trail walk yesterday.
The events aimed at raising awareness about biodiversity conservation and the importance of local wildlife habitats.
Speaking at the quiz competition held at Don Bosco High School, Khoupum, D John Sha, Divisional Forest Officer, Noney emphasized the significance of fostering community participation in wildlife conservation.
He noted that such initiatives not only inspire interest in nature but also strengthen local stewardship of forest resources.
The bird watching and trail walk was led by Thaithuilung Pamei, Noney Range Forest Officer and Dr Robert Panmei, Guest Faculty, Department of Forestry, Manipur University.
The programme held at Lungkhuibut Eco Park, Longmai-2, Noney drew enthusiastic participation from Tazei Public Higher Secondary School students, teachers, local community members and nature lovers.
Dr Robert Panmei led the participants through a guided trail walk.
The event concluded with flora identification techniques and the importance of sustainable eco-tourism.
The celebration was part of the State Forest Department's broader campaign for Wildlife Week, observed every year in the first Week of October, under the theme of "Human-Animal Coexistence" .
THOUBAL
As part of the 71st Wildlife Week Celebration 2025 Kasom Khullen Forest Range organised a wildlife awareness campaign at Kasom Somrei Village Authority office located in Kasom Khullen Sub-Division.
The campaign was held under the supervision of Kamjong Forest Division DFO Napolean Rongmei.
The event was attended by Alungpam Shinglai, Headman, Kasom Somrei Village; Meihoubam Biren, Range Officer, Kasom Khullen Forest Range and Kh Brajesh, president, Wildlife Explorer Manipur as the presidium members.
Meanwhile, E Premjit, secretary, Wildlife Explorer Manipur and RK Joti, member, IBCN were present as resource persons.
Other dignitaries include B Prabin Sharma, Beat Officer, K Somrei Beat Office and staff; staff of Kasom Khullen Range, villagers of Kasom Somrei and members of Wildlife Explorer Manipur.
ASSAM RIFLES
Against the serene back-drop of Saibol Joupi village in Chandel, the 71st Wildlife Conservation Week was commemorated with a vibrant community programme that brought together villagers, school children and conservation officials in a shared celebration of nature jointly organised by Assam Rifles and the Forest Department, Chakpikarong Range.
As per a press release issued by IGAR (S), more than 70 villagers, including school children, gathered to engage in discussions and activities that highlighted the importance of preserving the region's rich ecological heritage.
A total of 18 personnel from both Assam Rifles and the Forest Department guided the interaction, sharing insights on conservation strategies and the vital role of local communities in safeguarding forests and wildlife habitats.
The Chief of Saibol Joupi village conveyed heartfelt appreciation to the organisers, acknowledging Assam Rifles' consistent efforts in promoting environmental awareness and urging fellow villagers to take active roles in protecting their natural surroundings.
The event concluded with an interactive session that allowed participants to exchange ideas and strengthen their commitment to conservation initiatives.
