RIMS Telecobalt purchasing case Charge hearing fixed on May 22

Imphal, April 06 2017: The Special Court for Prevention of Corruption, Imphal West has fixed May 22 for charge hearing of the case pertaining to misappropriation of fund during purchase of telecobalt machine for RIMS Regional Cancer centre against six accused.

CBI Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) provided missing documents to the counsels of the six accused before the special Court today.

Counsels of the six accused received the documents provided by CBI (ACB).

The case was filed by CBI (ACB) against them under 173 CrPC before special Judge, Prevention of Corruption, Imphal West under PC Act 1988 .

The six accused include former Director of RIMS Dr Fimate, former Director Sinam Sekharjit, former head of department, Radiotherapy Dr Th Tomcha, Shahid Hussain of King Abdul Aziz Road Jubali, Saudi Arabia, Himanshu Sharma of Faridabad, Haryana and Scoot Macintosh of Canada in April last year.

Mention may be made that CBI (ACB) Imphal Branch registered an FIR on the basis of information received from reliable sources that in 2006, Department of Radiotherapy, RIMS received a project grant of Rs 5 crore for Regional Cancer Centre from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare when Fimate was Director of RIMS.

The charge sheet submitted by CBI alleged that the former RIMS Director along with S Sekharjit and Th Tomcha hatched a conspiracy with some unknown persons abusing their official position to favour private firm M/S Nordian Canada.

Indian based dealer M/S Kirloskar Theratronic Private Limited and its manager misappropriated Rs 2.37 crore through M/S Nordian Canadian during purchase of a Telecobalt machine by flouting laid out norms.

It pointed out that the machine of the same specification manufactured by M/S Panacea Tech Private Limited of Bangalore was available at a price lesser by Rs 1 crore than the price charged by the Canadian company thereby making RIMS suffer a loss of over Rs 1 crore.

A sum of Rs 5 crore was sanctioned and released by the Ministry to the Regional Cancer Centre, RIMS on July 12, 2006 under the National Cancer Programme.
