A police commando personnel, who was behind the shooting to injure a civilian on last Sunday, has been placed under suspension from his service, an official source said today.
On Sunday (June 13) a youth by the name Abonmei Kaibi Henam (33) of Makhan village sustained bullet injury when a team of police commandos in civil dress fired to a group of youths coming for site seeing at a waterfall at Makhan village, Kanglatombi under Sapermaina police station of Senapati district.
The incident occurred at about 3.50 pm and the youth received bullet injury at his left shoulder and attending medical treatment at Shija hospital, Imphal.
Reports said that police commandos in civil dress fired the gun towards a group of 11 youths among whom Abonmei was one who are trying to cross the Makhan river to join with two of their friends on the other side of the river this afternoon.
When they were in the river bank and not in position to cross the high water level, two gypsy vehicles bearing registration no.MN01-5391 and MN01-6391 leveled as Imphal West CDO arrived there.
The police team in civil dress fired at the group of youths who were on the other side of the river bank when they were talking at loud voice on the other bank of the river, reports said.
In the followed up action, police immediately launched investigation by interrogating the police commando personnel in the team.
Later, the personnel behind the shooting, Takhellambam Angou (30) son of T Mohendro of Kongpal Laishram Leikai in Imphal east district surrendered to the Imphal Police Station yesterday, an official source said adding he has been placed under suspension from his service, the source said.
