What are the scholars and intellectuals of the state doing for the Manipuri society, asked the president of the Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Prof N Tombi, while expressing serious concern over the decreasing originality in the works of the so-called scholars and intellectuals.
Prof N Tombi raised the question while speaking at the function of releasing a book entitled "Ernesto Che Guevara" in Manipuri but Bangla script written by Laishram Sotinkumar yesterday at the office of the Progressive Writers' House, Khurai Lamlong Thongkhong to coincide with the observance of the 82nd birth anniversary of Ernesto Che Guevara, the Argentine born Cuban revolutionary leader.
Speaking as the chief guest at the function, Prof Tombi stressed the need for research by the scholars and intellectuals on the real events when controversy surfaced, and let the people know the truth behind the events or the issues.
Doing such research is very rare among the scholars and intellectuals of the state, he lamented.

The Professor also said that the revolutionary who could not think of and treat all human beings as one, would never succeed in his struggle.
True revolutionaries are those who treat all human beings as one, and go hand in hand with the people.
Che Guevara possessed this quality, he opined.
Che Guevara not only loved his countrymen but also treated all people in the world as one.
He was among the rare revolutionaries who struggled for peoples of different countries in the true spirit of humanity, Prof Tombi obsereved while talking at length on the life of the great international revolutionary leader.
Let the present day revolutionaries learn from the story of Che Guevara and follow his ideals, Prof Tombi said.
Speaking as president of the function, president of the Writers' Forum, Manipur, Aribam Kumar Sharma observed that popularity of Che Guevara was increasing day by day.
More works were needed to be done to know him better.
Writer of the book, L Sotinkumar, a popular Communist leader, spoke at length how he wrote the story of Che Guevara.
Dr Hijam Harneth spoke about the book and the life of Che Guevara.
Dr Dhanabir Laishram, Chinglen Meisnam of Manipur University and others spoke at the book releasing function cum observance of the birth anniversary of Che Guevara and talked about the life and works of the great international revolutionary.
The 132-page book, priced at Rs 200, but for libraries and students, Rs 100, is published by Progressive Literature House, Ram Singh Bhavan, Khurai Lamlong bazar.
The book also gives a short description on the life of L Sotinkumar, who has actively participated in the "class struggle" for 40 years so far.
