A free eye and ear testing camp for teachers in Government schools was held at TG Higher Secondary School here yesterday.
Considered to be first of its kind in the State, the camp was organised by Spastic Society of Manipur under the sponsorship of Department of Education (S), Govt of Manipur.
In connection with the camp, secretary general of the Society Laishram Ricky explained that the free testing of eye and ear is specially for those teachers working under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
He said that the aim of the camp is to detect visual and audio impairment among these teachers so that necessary treatment could be done beforehand to overcome communication barriers while teaching.
Many Refractionists, Ophthalmologists and ENT doctors participated in the camp.
Ricky further informed that the Society has been carrying out a programme called Earlier Intervention Programme to help young children with late development.
The Society won the National Award for Best Institute in India for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in 2008, he added.
