5th anniversary celebration of NEP 2020 focuses on interdisciplinary innovation, Indian knowledge systems

In an academic collaboration with IGNOU Regional Centre, Imphal, and Seva Bharati, Manipur, the Oriental College (Autonomous), Takyel, Imphal organised the 5th anniversary celebration of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 today.
As per a press release issued by Oriental College (Autonomous), the academic event was held at the Conference Hall of the College and centred on the theme "NEP 2020's Vision for Interdisciplinary Innovation and Cross-Sector Entrepreneurship".
It brought together renowned academicians, institutional leaders, and community representatives.
The function was graced by Professor Irom Gambhir Singh, Head, Department of English and Cultural Studies, Manipur University as the chief guest and resource person.
In his keynote address titled "Indigenous Knowledge Systems in Alignment with NEP 2020", he delivered a thought- provoking lecture highlighting the immense potential of traditional knowledge practices embedded within the diverse communities of Manipur.
He elaborated on how centuries-old ecological wisdom, community-based healthcare practices, oral literature, artisanal craftsmanship, and customary conflict-resolution mechanisms represent rich intellectual resources that can contribute meaningfully to the goals of NEP 2020.Meanwhile, Professor Irom Gambhir Singh urged educators and curriculum designers to incorporate local heritage and indigenous epistemologies into the formal education system to nurture rooted, contextually aware learners.
He also emphasized the need for interdisciplinary research that bridges modem scientific knowledge with the intuitive and sustainable practices of tribal and hill communities across Manipur.
Functional president Dr S Ranjit Singh, Principal of Oriental College reiterated the institution's firm resolve to align its academic mission with the progressive vision of NEP 2020 .
Guest of honour Dr Salam Dilan Singh, Senior Regional Director, IGNOU Regional Centre, Imphal, outlined past and forthcoming initiatives undertaken by IGNOU aimed at promoting innovation, skill development, and entrepreneurial learning through interdisciplinary approaches.
Additionally, Khwairakpam Rajen Singh, former State Informatics Officer and former State Secretary of Seva Bharati, Manipur, the other guest of honour, also spoke extensively on the need for integrating entrepreneurial knowledge in the current higher education curriculum of the State.
