Convention on "Governance and Turmoil in Manipur" held

In continuation of the series of discussions on "Manipur Today and Tomorrow" organised by the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), Manipur for the last one year, a 1 -Day Convention on "Governance and Turmoil in Manipur" was conducted yesterday at the hall of NG College, Imphal.
The convention was organised by IDS and IQAC of NG College, Imphal, said a release issued by IDS.
It was graced by Wangkhemcha Shamjai, former president, AMWJU and chief editor of Kangleipaki Meira; Prof N Mohendro Singh; Ashok Roy Choudhury, Principal, NG College and Thangjam Joykumar Singh, managing director, Thangjam Agro Industries as presidium members.
Dr Yumnam Premananda Singh, Head of Department, Law, Manipur University and Dr Arambam Noni, Associate Professor, DM University also attended the convention as resource persons.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr Kh Somorendro Singh, retired Director, ICM, highlighted the major programmes and activities of IDS and added that the institute was formed at the intellectual circle with like minded people in Manipur.
"IDS have been recommending various suggestions and development inputs to the Government from time to time", he added.
Dr Premananda highlighted a series of problems and issues happening in Manipur during the last one year or so.
"The non-performance of the Government to the fullest extent and lack of a unified command of the CSOs are a major concern.
Our MPs and Ministers could not place the genesis of the problem and the issue of Merger Agreement in the Parliament till today", he asserted.
Dr Noni suggested relevant points to save Manipur from the present crises while Prof Mohendro reiterated the sufferings of the people from militant conservatism.
The convention ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Adibu Newmai, president, NG College Teachers Association.
