Imphal, May 25 2025:
Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has demanded action against those who prevented a State Transport bus with "Manipur" signage enroute to Ukhrul from proceeding beyond Gwaltabi on May 20.He wrote to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla seeking exemplary action.
In a memorandum, the MP stated that the Gwaltabi incident represents an unprecedented attitude from defence personnel, undermining the trust civilians have placed in them.
Sanajaoba described the 4th Mahar Regiment's action as bizarre and questioned its legality, asking if it is illegal to travel on a bus with 'Manipur' inscribed on it within the State.
The MP stated that a thorough investigation will reveal whether the Army personnel acted on their own or based on instructions from an administrative authority.
Sanajaoba emphasized that security agencies should provide a "healing touch" rather than acting irresponsibly, given Manipur's situation.
Saying that the armed forces and law enforcement agencies should exercise restraint, avoid partiality, and act with fairness and justice, he added that Manipur is expecting a lot from the Governor by giving peace a chance.
