PM-RAHAT sensitisation programme held in Bishnupur

Bishnupur, July 21 2026: A stakeholder meeting-cum-sensitisation programme on the Prime Minister - Road Accident Victims' Hospitalization & Assured Treatment (PM-RAHAT) Scheme was held at the Conference Hall of the Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur, on Tuesday.

Addressing the programme, Deputy Commissioner Bishnupur Pooja Elangbam highlighted the significance of the scheme, stating that cashless treatment of up to Rs 1.5 lakh for eligible road accident victims would help reduce preventable deaths and disabilities caused by road accidents.

She said the scheme seeks to ensure that every eligible victim receives prompt, cashless and quality medical treatment without delays arising from financial constraints.

Pooja further elaborated on the key objectives of the scheme, which include saving fives through immediate access to emergency medical care, eliminating financial barriers to emergency treatment, strengthening coordination among hospitals, police, transport authorities, and the district administration, improving emergency response systems, ensuring equitable access to healthcare, and enhancing public confidence that road accident victims will receive timely medical attention.

L Nongdrenkhomba Meitei, State Rollout Manager, NIC, Dr N Johnson and Dr Salam Bitam Singh were the resource persons at the programme.

They sensitised participants on their respective roles and responsibilities in the effective implementation of the scheme, stressing timely reporting, seamless inter-departmental coordination and adherence to prescribed protocols for ensuring prompt medical assistance and cashless treatment to eligible victims.

The programme was attended by Electronic Detailed Accident Report (eDAR) nodal officers from the Police, Transport and Health Departments, besides representatives of PM-JAY empanelled hospitals in the district.

The PM-RAHAT Scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 13, 2026.Under the scheme, eligible victims of road accidents involving motor vehicles are entitled to treatment coverage of up to Rs 1.5 lakh per victim, subject to a maximum treatment period of seven days from the date of the accident, irrespective of the category of road on which the accident occurs.
