Annual Sports / Literary Meet kicks off

The three-days long 46th Annual Sports Meet cum Literary Meet, 2023 of Southern Tangkhul Baptist Association (STNBA) High School began today at its complex in Irong, Kangpokpi district.
It was attended by social activist Ashang Kasar, STNBA High School principal N Phungthar, Taragi Cheishu convener Dr Dhakeshor Potshangbam and former Medical Superintendent of RIMS Professor Y Mohen as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashang Kasar underscored the importance of building peace and harmony among the various communities in the State.
He opined that there could be no development in the State unless all the communities collectively strive to bring peace & harmony.

"Hence, teachers and parents must instill constructive and positive thoughts in the minds of their children and students.
In addition, the rudiments and essence of 'peace building' should be included in the school curriculum right from the Primary School level so that our youths will acquire them", he added.
He also said that the society as a whole should stand for justice and collectively work towards bringing peace & harmony.
Saying that excessive usage of mobile phones by young children has become a menace in the society, he asked students and parents to refrain from such habit.
While advising the students to acquire discipline and moral values during the students' life, Ashang Kasar maintained that making the society peaceful & prosperous lies in the hands of the students and younger generations.
Dr Dhakeshor expressed his desire for establishing a support system among the various indigenous communities residing in the State to uplift the weaker sections of the society.
Pointing out that mending the communication gap between the various communities and enhancing the social interaction among them is vital towards bringing peace and co-existence in the State, he said, "One community must acknowledge another's language and culture" .
N Phungthar stated that STNBA High School which was established in 1977 and sponsored by 89 Baptist Churches is the only privatized school in and around Irong.
He also asserted that the school has so far produced many prolific personalities including politicians and doctors among other professionals.
As part of the event, a one day free medical camp organised by Taragi Cheishu and doctors from JNIMS was also conducted in the school campus.
