Imphal, November 16 2024:
Since the elected MLAs cannot protect the life and property of the people, it would be best for the MLAs including the chief minister himself to resign from their respective political parties: Shanta Nahakpam, spokesperson for 13 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) has stated.
In a press meet held at IPSA's office in Keishampat on Saturday, Shanta Nahakpam said that despite appeals to release the abducted civilians including three young children, it was reported that one of the woman and two children had been killed He questioned why the central and state governments are unable to declare the Kuki militants as terrorists when they are wantonly killing innocent civilians.
Since the MLAs cannot protect the very people who elected them to power, it would be best for them to resign from their respective political parties.
Holding on to the seats will not guarantee a stable situation and would invite a more serious situation than the June 18 uprising, he said, while urging all to boycott all central and state government institutions.
He also said that 13 CSOs will support whatever decision the people make.
