World Blood Donor Day observed, blood donation camps conducted

As observed across the globe, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal celebrated World Blood Donor Day in front of General OPD, RIMS Hospital, Imphal on Friday.
World Blood Donor day is celebrated annually on June 14 to recognise the vital contributions of blood donors, said a release.
This year's theme, "20 Years of Celebrating Giving: Thank You Blood Donors!" highlights two decades of worldwide recognition of the vital contribution of blood donors.
As part of the observance, a Blood Donation Camp was also organised at the Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS, Imphal.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director, RIMS, Imphal in the presence of Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital, Imphal; Prof Brogen Singh Akoijam, Dean (Academics), RIMS, Imphal and Prof A Barindra Sharma, Head, Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS, Imphal.

A total of 50 donors led by Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma donated their blood during the camp to signify the importance of blood donation.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof G Sunil Kumar expressed his appreciation to the people who donated their blood, voluntarily and unpaid, to give others the gift of life.
He elaborated on the value of every single drop of blood and the need to make the people aware about the advantages of donating blood.
Highlighting the benefits of donating blood, he said, "Donating blood helps reduce stress and improve our emotional well-being.
Medical researchers have also suggested that donating blood can even reduce the rate of heart attack, reduce iron storage and help the liver to keep healthy" .
He also appealed to all the doctors, nurses, staff and students of the institute to donate their blood and help save lives.
RK Mecolt Singh, Deputy Director (Administration), RIMS, Imphal, all Head of Departments, Principal of Dental College and College of Nursing, RIMS, faculties, Chief Nursing Officer i/c, nursing officials, students and staff of RIMS, Imphal also attended the event.
Similarly, State Blood Cell, State Health Society, NHM, Manipur in collaboration with State Blood Transfusion Council, Manipur celebrated World Blood Donor Day at GP Women's College, Imphal today.
It was attended by Health Services, Director, Dr O Sanahanbi Devi; NHM, Manipur, State Mission Director, Dr Somorjit Ningombam; Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS, Prof Dr A Barindra Sharma; Blood Centre, JNIMS, Senior MO in-charge, Dr Konsam Surjit and GP Women's College, Principal, Hijam Romi as presidium members.
At the event, Dr O Sanahanbi enlightened the gathering about the achievements & challenges of the National Blood Programme and universal access to safe blood transfusion.
She also stressed on the need to promote the culture of regular blood donation to increase the diversity and sustainability of the blood donor pool.
Moreover, the Indian Army (59 Mountain Brigade) in collaboration with Shija Blood Centre & Transfusion Services, Langol, Indian Red Cross Society, Bishnupur, Chhyatap Foundation, and District Hospital, Bishnupur also celebrated World Blood Donor Day by organising a voluntary blood donation camp at District Hospital, Bishnupur.
A total of 70 volunteers participated in the blood donation camp.
