Sessions of the model schools of government in six districts of the state have started from today.
The model schools, special category English medium school, set up by the government in an effort to save government schools, started its sessions from today were Wangkhei Girls High School of Imphal east district, Keishamthong High School of Imphal west, Gandhi Memorial High School of Churachandpur, Raphei High School of Ukhrul and Liwa Chaning High School of Chandel district.
With no student admitted, the start of the session of the same category schools in Senapati and Tamenglong has been deferred.
Government authority is looking into the reason behind the failure to the coming up students taking serious note on the matter, a highly reliable source said.
State education minister, L Jayentakumar attended a function held at the opening of session of the model school of the Wangkhei Girls High School in Imphal east district.
Commissioner (school education), PK Singh presided over the function which was attended by MLA E Suraj as guest of honour.
State information commissioner, Chungkham Biren, ex-MP W Kullabidhu and founder member of the school, Akoijam Ibotombi also attended as special invitees of the function.
Observing that performances of the government school are very poor for a long time, Jayentakumar said that with the start of the functioning of model schools founded by the government, the performances of the government schools will be improved.
Each model schools having class-IV to VIII will have 40 students in each class.
Students will be provided latest methods of teaching methods and reading materials, he assured.
