Silent village under high security alert

Following the incident of torching 36 houses in Silent Village, which falls under Senapati district but located along the border with Imphal East district, by a mob from the neighbouring Seijang village over land dispute yesterday, restrictions under CrPc 144 have been clamped in the area to restore normalcy.
Victor Keishing, Parliamentary Secretary in charge of Tribal Development and Hills along with MLA of Saikul A/C Yamthong Haokip paid a visit to Silent village today and provided relief materials to the villagers whose houses have been burnt down.
The visiting team was accompanied by DC of Senapati distrit and SP of Imphal East district.
Speaking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the visit, Victor Keishing observed that the unwanted incident which broke out at Silent village yesterday was not a result of the conflict between the two neighbouring villages but it was an incident which occurred between some sections of the people who are hell bent on grabbing more land for themselves.
We should see that no such incidents are repeated in future.
He further observed that the incident of burning down houses by the mob was very unfortunate and the State Government is taking the matter very seriously.
Apart from providing relief materials to the victims, the State Government has decided to ensure all kinds of assistance to the victims.
Victor also appealed to the villagers not to think of taking revenge over the matter and assured that all those involved in the crime would be dealt seriously and legal actions would be taken up accordingly.
He further appealed to the people of Silent village, leaders of churches, village leaders and other organizations to help the State Government in restoring peace in the area and not to take the law in their own hands and prevent the incident from giving a communal tone.
MLA Yamthong Haokip prevailed over the villagers not to panic over apprehensions of recurrence of similar incidents in future.
To prevent tension from escalating further, the State Government is taking up necessary security arrangement.
He also announced that to prevent such unfortunate incidents from happening in future, the State Government has approved setting up an IRB post at Silent village.
People of Silent should not have any grudge nor think of taking revenge over the incident, but continue to live in peace, the MLA added.
During the visit today, the affected villagers of Silent were provided with tin sheets, rice, dal, clothes and other utensils from the side of the Department of Tribal Development and Hills.
From the side of the DC Senapati, cash along with clothes, rice and dal were provided while rice from the side of SP Imphal East.
