Tree plantation programme held at various places

Imphal, July 28 2024:
With the aim to address environmental challenges, enhance ecological balance and promote a greener future for generations to come, AT-Wangoi Yumnam Huidrom along with the people of Wangoi area organised a tree plantation programme at Lainingthou Sanamahi Lampak in Wangoi today.
The tree plantation programme was conducted in connection with observation of World Nature Conservation Day.
During the event, Hidangmayum Bihari Sharma who has planted more than 100 trees in the last one year was also felicitated by the Forest Department.
Speaking on the occasion, Longjam Joykumar, Chief Conservator of Forest Department, Manipur, said that tree planting is considered one of the most effective tools for combating climate change and restoring biodiversity.
He also shared that the Chief Minister along with the Forest Minister have been working hard to achieve the target of planting 50 lakh tree sapling within the month of September this year.
Hidangmayum Bihari Sharma and AT Wangoi Yumnam Huidrom team advisor Indrason Wahengbam also took part in the programme.
Lions Club of Imphal
The Lions Club of Imphal carried out the first service project for the Lionistic Year 2024-25 as an Environment Project at Manipur Mahila Kalyan Samiti Children Home, Kabo Leikai on Sunday.
Under the project, a tree plantation drive on the theme "Upal Ama Emagi Mingda" was carried out by the members of the Club and the boys residing at the Children Home.
The chairman of Club Environment Committee, Bonbirdhwaja Akham said that the objective of today's project is not only to plant the seedlings, but to let them grow.
"Hence an innovative approach is adopted wherein each one of the planted seedlings are entrusted to the care of a group of boys.
To make a connection between the boys and the seedling under their care, they are given a name", he added.
He also asserted that each group will be mentored by a Club member for about a month.
Past District Governor, District 322D, H Manikumar Singh, MJF, delivered an awareness lecture on the Lions Clubs, its growth and expansion and the focussed projects for the benefit of the residents and staff of the Children Home.
Later, free seedlings were also distributed under the theme "Pick One, Plant One" .
Rotary Club of Polo City
The Rotary Club of Polo City also organised a tree plantation programme at Dev Eco Garden, Patsoi, on Sunday.
The tree plantation was conducted as part of Rotary Club's ongoing yearly programme with the theme, "Go Green Manipur" under the global Rotary slogan, "Plant trees to save the environment & Earth".
Rotary Club of Polo City president Elangbam Sovid, secretary Preshyojit Sangalakpam and other senior members of the club participated in the programme.
Punna Hingminnaba Marup
Punna Hingminnaba Marup also organised the 5th Sunday Tree Plantation Programme at Wai ton Maning Leikai today.
L Prabhunanda Singh, Additional Commissioner, Central Board of Indirect Tax & Customs, Imphal CGST; Dr S Jackison Singh, ex-Sen-ior Resident, RIMS, Imphal; Major VS Reisang, MHA staff and members of Punna Hingminnaba Marup planted tree sapling in the surrounding areas of the Play Ground and Pukhri Achouba located at Waiton Maning Leikai.
Ibudhou Marjing Khubam
The Ibudhou Marjing Khubam Kanba Lup in collaboration with Central Forest Division, Government of Manipur, also organised a mass tree plantation programme at Ibudhou Marjing Khubham (Marjing Polo Complex) in Heingang, Imphal under the theme, "Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience" today.
The programme was conducted as part of the celebration of the 75th Van Mahotsav.
Ibudhou Marjing Khubham Kanba Lup secretary, S Tondang Meetei; Ibudhou Maijing Khubham Kanba Lup president, Naoroibam Jugin along with officials of Central Forest Division and Forest Guards actively participated in the mass tree plantation programme.
Similarly, United Ex-SAI Players Manipur also organised a tree plantation programme at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal today under the theme, "Save Manipur, Save Environment" .
The programme was participated by T Phulen Meitei, Director, Youth Affairs & Sports; Th Ibotombi Singh, ex-Additional Director, SAI; Chandrajit, ex-SAI Cycling Coach; Anita, YAS Coach; environment activist Manikanta Mutum; K Manglemba Singh, president UESP; A Dilip, secretary UESP; along with more than 75 UESP members, athletes and staff of Forest Department.
