MSC/CPI Konthoujam LC appeals for new water policy

The Konthoujam Local Council Manipur State Coun-cil/Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI) has appealed the State authorities for a new "Water Policy" for Konthoujam AC to help prevent repeated instances of flooding in the area.
The appeal was made in view of the incessant rains that have caused major flooding across the State in eluding in many villages under Konthoujam AC.
A statement issued by Kh Thoiba Singh, secretary, Konthoujam Local Council MSC/CPI has shared that the rivers and water channels passing through the AC have overflowed and flooded nearby villages and paddy fields.
It added that Maklang River has overflowed and submerged Ngairangbam, Khumbong and Khaidem villages.
MSC/CPI Konthoujam LC further added that Kangmong Leimakhong River has overflowed and inundated Kangmong and Kha-jiri villages.
In addition, the statement highlighted the dangers posed to villages in the vicinity of Sajirok River and Merakhong River.
Thus, the Konthoujam Local Council has urged the State Government to take up the Nambol River Project to solve these issues once and for all.
