250 hired hands clean Imphal city daily

Imphal, January 28 2018:
Around 250 workers engaged on daily wage basis have been cleaning and mopping Imphal city thereby keeping the city somewhat neat and clean.
As for the IMC staff, they are currently on strike for non-payment of salaries.
A notification issued by the Finance Department declared that no salaries would be given to employees who do not possess Employees Identification Number (EIN).
As such, due process has been initiated to obtain EIN for IMC employees who are yet to get the same numbers, informed a source.
IMC staff are not getting their salaries as the process of obtaining EIN is yet to be completed.
IMC spends around Rs 35 lakh in paying salaries to its employees.
But the employees have not been getting salaries for the past five months as they have not yet obtained EIN.
On the other hand, it is estimated that Imphal city generates around 100 tonnes of garbage every day.
Garbage and waste materials collected from Imphal city are disposed at the solid waste disposal site of Lamdeng since 2016.NGOs have been collecting waste materials from all the 27 wards of IMC.
At the moment, around 250 workers are engaged in cleaning and moping Imphal city at the rate of Rs 225 per day.
At the same time, NGOs engaged in collection and disposal of waste materials have also been cleaning and moping different parts of the city, said the source.
Apart from the solid waste disposal site of Lamdeng, the Government has formulated a plan to develop another waste disposal site at Thoubal Khunou with monetary assistance from NEC.
Necessary land has been already acquired.
Garbage and waste, materials disposed at Thoubal Khunou would also be taken to Lamdeng.
As such, Lamdeng Solid Waste Management Plant would not face any dearth of raw materials, said the source.
Machines for generating power at Lamdeng Solid Waste Management Plant have been already procured.
Installation work is currently going on and it is expected to be completed by March.
