Imphal, May 26 2025:
Manipuri Gorkha Union has strongly condemned the recent incident involving personnel of the 4th Mahar Regiment, who stopped a Manipur State Transport (MST) bus carrying a media team en-route to cover the Shirui Lily Festival in Ukhrul.
Describing the act as 'inappropriate' and 'deeply disrespectful', the Union stated that such behaviour undermines the sentiments of the people of Manipur and the state's integrity, especially during the ongoing unrest and turmoil.
In a statement, the Union highlighted the neutrality maintained by the Nepali-speaking Manipuri Gorkhas amid the crisis, despite facing challenges from multiple sides.
"We continue to stand for peace, unity and well-being of all communities, and we deeply mourn the lives lost during this conflict," the statement said.
The Union also condemned the recent targeting of Khadka Bahadur Tamanga prominent social worker, politician, former Manipur Gorkha Welfare Union general secretary and ex-district secretary of the BJP, Manipur Pradesh who has reportedly received threats and had his newly constructed house vandalised by unidentified individuals.
Calling for an immediate end to such acts of intimidation and violence, the Union warned that if such incidents persist, the matter would be apprised to the higher authorities to ensure accountability under the law.
"We firmly believe that any dispute or concern can be resolved through peaceful and democratic means.
Violence has no place in a civilised society," the Union said.
