National Workshop, Seminar conducted

A 4-Day Seminar on "Shumang Leela" organised by Manipur State Kala Akademi, Imphal began today at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound.
The inaugural function was graced by M Joy Singh, Commissioner, Art & Culture, Government of Manipur and Y Rajendra Singh, Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, M Joy Singh stressed on the need to up-hold the tradition, custom and culture of Shumang Leela in this ever-changing world.
He said that Shumang Leela, one the most popular performing arts of the State has witnessed many changes over the years.
He shared that various aspects of Shumang Leela including its origin, changes, custom & traditional aspects will be discussed during the seminar.
M Joy also expressed hope that Shumang Leela will continue to play a vital role in shaping the society, reflecting current issues, ideologies, patterns & problems of the society.
The 1st day of the seminar was divided into two sessions - Morning session moderated by Y Rajendra Singh and Afternoon Session moderated by Dr Makhon Mani Mongsaba.
In the morning session, Premmi Wahengbam delivered a lecture on the topic, "A History of Shumang Leela of Manipur" while Ph Gunachandra Sharma spoke on "Norms and Traditional Values of Shumang Leela".
In the afternoon session, S Muktabali Leima and L Dorendra Singh spoke on the topic, "Moirangparva Tradition of Shumang Leela".
A large number of writers, directors, scholars, musicians and artists of Shumang Leela participated in the seminar.
Moreover, the inaugural function of the 7-Day National Workshop on "Environmentalism and Traditional Ecological Knowledge" was held today at the auditorium of Dhanamanjuri College of Arts, Imphal.
The workshop was jointly organised by Academic Research Forum, Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) and School of Humanities, DMU.
The inaugural function was attended by Prof S Lanchenba Meetei, Dean, School of Humanities, DMU and president, Academic Research Forum, DMU; Aheibam Romel Singh, Director, State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and Prof Ch Sheelaramani, former Dean, School of Humanities, DMU as presidium members.
