Kakching, June 19 2024:
Renovation of Hiyanglam Wabagai Lamkhai to Sugnu road along the Indo-Burma Sugnu State Highway has commenced sponsored by Dr Yumnam Radheshyam, MLA Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency.
Dr Yumnam Radheshyam kicked off the road repair work from Hiyanglam Wabagai Lamkhai Bazar today.
Y Lenin Singh, Executive Engineer, PWD Kakching Division; T Bishworjit, Assistant Engineer and SO Ataur Rahman were also present at the spot.
Speaking in this connection, Dr Yumnam Radheshyam shared that this road stretch was last renovated 14/15 years ago and hence is in a hazardous condition and posing risks for automobile accidents.
In view of the nuisance faced by the public in commuting along this road, the MLA resolved to begin its repair and finance it himself.
With regards to the road repair work, he said that in consultation with PWD officials, the worst portions of the road stretch, including the potholes, will be evened out and black topped.
Due to the length of the road, it will be difficult to repair it without help from the Centre.
Many proposals were fielded to the Centre in this regard and a survey was even conducted to transform this road into a two-lane highway.
However, the sanctions were not passed, he shared.
Now the State Government has sent a proposal to the Centre to approve the renovation of this road stretch with the financial assistance from three/four other funds.
He expressed hope that the proposal will be approved this time.
Stating that the renovation work was undertaken while waiting for Centre's approval to the proposal, he added that the State Government is trying its best to expedite the construction of Hiyanglam Wabagai Lamkhai to Sugnu road by putting it in its priority list.
Separately, the Langmeidong Manung Awang Leikai market shed funded from the Local Area Development Fund under the supervision of Dr Yumnam Radheshyam was also inaugurated today.
