Imphal, April 17: A youth said to be a member of the proscribed PREPAK outfit has been apprehended by locals from Heirok Part-I area late last night and later handed over to a security post after thrashing the said individual.

The youth, handed over to the Heirok post of 88 Bn BSF, has been identified as moirangthem Ronel (26) s/o M Khojo of Heirok Khunou.

Ronel is said to be in the custody of Thoubal police after the BSF authorities handed over the same individual today.

According to police sources, Ronel was a former PREPAK cadre currently out on bail.

The same individual had been penalised (shot) by activists of the banned armed group some times back.

It may be recounted that after the shooting incident at a Thabal chongba venue during the Yaoshang festival by some PREPAK members that claimed the lives of three youths, an uneasy calm had been gripping Heirok after the locals proclaimed ban on entry of members/activists of any UG group at Heirok area.

Consequent upon the prohibition, houses of suspected UG elements were dismantled apart from the locals deciding to ostracise those families found providing shelter to the UG activists.

On the other hand, two PULF cadres identified as Md Hibjur Rahaman alias Epoy (21) and Md Sherkhan alias Khan (20) of Sangaiyumpham were arrested by a combined team of Imphal East and Thoubal commandos from Sangai-yumpham along with two demand letters at about 8.15 pm of April 15, informed SP Imphal East Th Radheshyam in a release.

Another PULF cadre identified as Md Islaoddin alias Ashique (21) of Sora Mayai Leikai was also apprehended by a combined team of Imphal East commandos and troops of 32 AR from Lamlong at about 8.30 pm yesterday, it added.
