International Conference on "Advanced Materials for Sustainability and Innovation" kicks off

A 3-Day International Conference on Advanced Materials for Sustainability and Innovation: Energy, Environment and Health (ICAMSI2025) kicked off today at the Manipur University Auditorium in Imphal.
The inaugural function of the conference organised by the Department of Physics, Manipur University was graced by dignitaries, including Prof Sumitra Phanjoubam, Dean School of Physical & Mathematical Science, MU; Prof Angom Dilip Kumar Singh, Head, Department of Physics, MU; Prof Umesh V Waghmare, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bengaluru; and Prof H Basantakumar Sharma, Department of Physics, MU.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof K Nomita, convenor of ICAMSI 2025, said that scientific advancement and sustainability are deeply interconnected and require the inclusive involvement of all regions and communities to be truly effective, equitable, and lasting.
She asserted that the North Eastern (NE) region of India lags behind the national average in research due to a combination of inadequate infrastructure, geographical isolation, political instability, and a lack of focus on developing a knowledgebased economy.
"While the region is rich in natural resources and human potential, several systemic challenges hinder its research output", said Prof K Nomita while adding that ICAMSI 2025 was conducted with the aim to help address these challenges.
She continued that the theme "Energy, Environment and Health" emphasizes the critical and interconnected relationships between these three areas, focusing on sustainable practices, technological advancements, and policy frameworks that promote a healthy planet and human well-being.
Prof K Nomita further shared that the conference will deliberate on various key topics such as nanomaterials, nanocomposites, metal organic framework, photocatalysis, environmental remediation, energy conversion, energy storage, real hydrogen, semiconductors and AI.
Notably, around 200 delegates representing 58 institutions from across the country and beyond are participating in ICAMSI 2025 .
