Imphal, May 06 2026:
As Manipur and its people continue to bear the brunt of the prevailing unrest, two women have vowed to continue their ongoing hunger strike until the Central and State Government resolve the crisis and deliver justice to the recent victims of violence.
The hunger strike protest entered the 4th day today at Sagolband Moirang Leirak Mabudhou Mantri Leikai Club.
The two hunger strikers are Thiyam Lanleima Luwang, d/o Thiyam Inaomacha and Thiyam Ongbi Shilleima from Sagolband Tera Khuraijam Leirak and Khaidem Jennifer, d/o Khaidem Kunjo and Khaidem Ongbi Ibenungshi from Uripok Haobam Dewan Leikai.
Speaking in this connection today, Sagolband Mabudhou Mantri Leikai Meira Paibi president Heigrujam Premita maintained that the three-year old conflict has claimed the lives of many people from the Meitei community, left many to battle with injuries while dozen others remain missing.
Recalling the recent cases of violence, she said two children were killed at Tronglaobi by "Kuki terrorists", three civilians in subsequent CPRF firing and two Tangkhul Naga men were killed in a shower of gunfire which also left others wounded.
Demanding justice for these cases, the two women launched their hunger strike on May 3, 2026, the three-year anniversary of the Manipur conflict.
Mothers, and womenfolk in general, have extended their full support to Lanleima and Jennifer as they stand firm on their demands, added H Premita.
