Imphal, August 01 2024:
Congress MLA K Meghachandra has said that the Manipur Budget presented by the State Government for the Fiscal Year 2024-25 was undesirable.
He made the remark on the second day of the Assembly session while discussing the Budget Estimates tabled by the leader of House Chief Minister N Biren Singh, today.
Elaborating, Meghachandra continued that the Budget for the year is smaller in size compared to the previous Fiscal Year (2023-24) and the same is an evidence of the State backtracking in terms of development.
Saying that the Budget tabled in 2023-24 was Rs 35,221 crore but it got reduced to Rs 34,815 this Fiscal Year, he urged the Government to take additional financial packages from the Centre to increase the Budget allocations given the situation in Manipur.
The Congress leader further said that the economic survey report of 2023-24 should be tabled before the House before presenting the Budget Estimates while asking why the economic survey report was not tabled.
There, however, is no change in taxation, the Congress MLA said.
Another Congress MLA Surjakumar Okram said that the Budget for 2024-24 is a copy paste version of the previous Budgets seemingly tabled without proper evaluation.
The Chief Minister tabled the Budget yesterday.
