Imphal, October 28, 2009: The state Government today ordered the transfer of four top police officers of Imphal East and West district police. Senior SP of Imphal West district police L Kailun and Addl SP (Ops) AK Jhaljit have been transferred to Imphal East district police as its Senior SP and Addl SP (Ops) respectively.

SP of Imphal East district police, Th Radheshyam and Addl SP of the same district M Rajen have been transferred to Imphal West district police as its SP and Addl SP (Ops) respectively.

OC of Imphal City Police, Y Munal has been transferred to Thoubal Police Station as its OC while OC of Thoubal Police Station RK Tejbir has been transferred as OC of Imphal City PS.

Meanwhile, two police commandos involved in the case of harassment to two reporters on the night of October 10 have been transferred.

Jemandar Yangambam Raju and Constable L Rabikumar (Constable No.01283) of Imphal police commando unit have been transferred to Lamshang Police Station commando unit while Jemandar M Pritamkumar of Lamshang PS commando unit along with a constable of the same unit, Thangboi Mangte (Constable No.0601094) have been transferred to the Imphal West police commando unit.

Responding to the "visible action" taken by the government in regard to the demands of the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU), the Union has convened a meeting at 11 am tomorrow at Manipur Press Club to discuss the action taken by the government.

Spokesperson of SPF and IFCD Minister, N Biren and Works Minister, K Ranjit personally turned up at the Manipur Press Club, Major Khul this evening carrying the transfer order of the two police commandos involved in the incident of harassment of two reporters.

The two Ministers invited office bearers of AMWJU and senior editors to come and meet the Chief Minister to thrash out the problem.

The meeting between the representatives of AMWJU and editors and the Chief Minister at the later's official residence held this late evening in the presence of state Chief Secretary, DS Poonia, DGP, Y Joykumar and some government officials arrived at certain decisions.

Six senior cabinet ministers of SPF government, Phungjathang Tonsing (Power), Th Debendra (Revenue), Ph Parijat (Health), K Ranjit (PWD), L Jayentakumar (Education) and N Biren (IFCD and spokesperson) also attended the meeting.

Spokesperson of the SPF government, N Biren initiating the talk appealed to AMWJU and the editors to withdraw the boycott stir.

He said, the government has taken actions in regard to the incident.

In reply to the minister's appeal, AMWJU's spokesperson, A Mobi said, scribes have no objection to the frisking and checking, but they could not tolerate assault and humiliation meted out by the state police.

DGP, Y Joykumar participating in the talks said that police are compelled to check media persons in order to pick out those who have nexus with underground elements, and cited some recent instances of arresting journalists on the charge of nexus with the outlaw outfits.

In his revelation, DGP even mentioned the detention of some scribes under NSA recently.

But this did not mean that police assault or harassed scribes.

Pointing out the alleged assault and humiliation of two scribes, he said the police version has gulf of different with that of scribes.

In such condition, it was not a light matter to take action against the police personnel involved in the case to fulfill the demand of the scribes.

When action initiated to them, who know police personnel revolt? Police department is aware of thing.

That is why action could not be taken up without proper investigation into the incident.

But, he assured that police personnel has been and will be asked to take outmost care while frisking and checking scribes so as to avoid any untoward incident in future as prevailing law and order situation compelled.

He also appealed scribes to co-operate with the police.

Chief minister taking part in the talk, convinced the scribes present in the meeting to withdraw their boycott stir as government has initiated action as demanded by them.

In reply to the appealed made from the chief minister, ministers and DGP, AMWJU's spokesperson, A Mobi said as government has started initiating visible action, they will consider for ending the stir.

But he sought to give time till tomorrow to discuss the matter in a meeting of the scribes.

He also assured of giving a positive response after the scribes meeting tomorrow.
