Thoubal, June 28 2024:
A protest rally was organised by Thoubal Kshetrileikai Apunba Meira Paibi today against the attempts to arrest village defence volunteers.
Demanding that no measures should be taken up to arrest the village defence volunteers until and unless the ethnic crisis is resolved, the protest rally started from Thoubal Kshetrileikai High School and culminated at Tomjing Makhong enroute Kshetrileikai and Phouden areas.
Speaking on the sidelines of the rally, Thoubal Kshetrileikai Apunba Meira Paibi Joint Secretary Jamini Sorokhaibam said that the State has been in turmoil ever since the outbreak of the tragic violence in May last year.
She maintained that due to the utter failure on the part of the Government to contain the violence, the village defence volunteers came forth to protect the integrity of the State and to safeguard its people.
In view of the above, no steps should be taken up to crackdown on these volunteers, she said.
She also urged the Government to implement equal measures both in the valley and in the hills to maintain law and order rather than being biased.
Considering the suffering of the people, she also urged to resolve the prevailing crisis at the earliest.
The rallyists also chanted slogans such as 'No compromise on territorial integrity of Manipur', 'Protect the village defence volunteers' etc.
