Imphal, August 19: Security forces deployed in the State have apprehended nine activists of different UG groups from various places yesterday.

According to a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S) two PLA and a PREPAK cadre were arrested by troops of 32 Assam Rifles during the course of an operation in Khongman area.

The captives have been identified as Wangkheimayum Thoi alias banta (18) s/o (L) W Ranjan of Khongman Zone III, Kiran Kumar (39) s/o (L) Gopal of Kakwa Selungba Leikai and No.1453 Aribam Surjit Sharma (29) s/o (L) A Brajakumar of Khongman Zone V.Kiran Kumar has been handed over to Kakwa police station and the remaining two to Irilbung police station.

The PRO also informed of 12 Maratha LI troops netting a KCP cadre identified as W Singh (25) s/o Nandu Singh of Lairenjam Awang Leikai.

The individual has been handed over to Nambol police station yesterday itself.

The largest number of arrest was made by troops of 21 Assam Rifles who were manning a mobile vehicle check post at Kakching Khunou Lamkhai and included three cadres of the PREPAK (GS) group and one overground worker of PREPAK.

They have been identified as S/S Cpl (No.4358/Batch No 21) Khoirom Ngongo alias Theitei alias Roshen (21) s/o Sarat Meitei, Tinoena alias Sanjit Kumar Singh (37) s/o Indrajit Singh, Ningthousana Singh (28) s/o (L) Thambai Mana Singh (all of Sugnu Awang Leikai) and OWG Ahongsangbam Ajit Meitei (22) s/o Ibosana Meitei of Sugnu Mamang Leikai.

Items recovered from the possession of the four have been listed as two wrist watches and one mobile phone handset (Nokia-1600), Rs 12,490 in addition to impounding a Tata 407 (MN01/4892).The four and seized items have been handed over to Kakching police station, the PRO added.

Meanwhile, troops of 12 Maratha LI manning the mobile vehicle check post at Yurembam makha Leikai seized 117 litres of country made liquor from the possession of one Heishnam Khemba Singh who has been handed over to Patsoi police station today.

In the meantime, SSP (IW) L Kailun informed of a combined team of district police commandos and personnel of 108th Bn CRPF apprehending a KYKL activist from Hiyangthang Bazar at around 9.30 am today.

The arrestee Urikhinbam Jateshwor alias Inaocha Singh (36) s/o U Hemchand Singh of Chajing Karam is said to have revealed that he was working under one S/S Sgt Raju and 'assigned to contract work' and extortion from general public for party fund of KYKL.

A mobile phone handset and an Activa scooter (MN01/Q9720) had been seized from Jateshwor's possession.
