Van Mahotsav : Tree plantation drives continue

Wide-scale tree plantation drives are being held across the State as a part of the ongoing 76th Van Mahotsav celebration to raise awareness about the importance of trees and forests in maintaining ecological balance and ensuring environmental stability.
Van Mahotsav, also known as the "Festival of Trees", is an annual week-long tree-planting festival celebrated in the country during the first week of July.
Today, the High Court of Manipur in collaboration with the Forest Department organised a tree plantation programme under the theme, "Ek Paudha Maa ke Naam" at the Court premises as part of the 76th Van Mahotsav, 2025.The plantation programme was led by Justice Kempaiah Somashekar, Chief Justice, High Court of Manipur who inaugurated the programme by planting a sapling in the High Court complex and addressing the importance of protecting the environment & supporting green initiatives.
Justice A Bimol Singh, Justice A Guneshwar Sharma, Judge, High Court of Manipur; Golmei Gaiphulshillu Kabui, Director, Manipur Judicial Academy; Lenin Singh Hijam, Advocate General, Manipur; Ojesh Mutum, Registrar General, High Court of Manipur; S Brajabihari Singh, Chairman, Bar Council of Manipur; N Kumarjit Singh, President, High Court Bar Association Manipur; Ch Bimolchandra Singh, President, All Manipur Bar Association; Anurag Bajpai, PCCF & HoFF; Sanajaoba Khuraijam, Nodal Officer, CF/Southem Circle; and Vikram Suresh Nadhe, DFO/Central Forest Division; along with officials of the High Court of Manipur and members of the Bar also participated in the tree plantation programme.
Under the direction of the Chief Justice, High Court of Manipur, the 76 th Van Mahotsav was organised today across all the District Courts by the respective District Legal Services Authority in coordination with the respective District Forest Officer's Divisions.
The plantation drive aimed to spread awareness about environment conservation, promote greenery, and emphasize the importance of a clean and healthy environment .
for future generations.
Also, as part of the Van Mahotsav celebration, Binny Ngangom, Judge, Family Court; N Rajanikanta, Judge, Family Court, Imphal East, W Tohen Meitei, FTC POCSO-2, and staff of the Court planted tree saplings at the Lamphel Court Complex today.
Moreover, the week-long celebration of Van Mahotsav 2025, organised by the Joint Action Co-ordination Committee (JACC), concluded today with a tree plantation programme at Lairikyengbam Leikai High School.
Students and teachers of the school led by the Head Mistress N Saroja Devi and JACC chairman Ch Hemchand planted tree saplings in the school campus.
Notably, during the week-long Van Mahotsav celebration, mass tree plantation drives were held at various parts of Kairang, Kontha Ahallup, Lairikyengbam Leikai and Laipham Khunou.
