COCOMI Farmers' Wing plans meet on agricultural crisis

Imphal, June 07 2025: Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) Farmer's Wing informed that a public meeting will be held on June 9 at 12:30 pm at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul, to discuss the plights and challenges faced by farmers due to the ongoing crisis since May 3, 2023 In a release, COCOMI Farmers' Wing convenor A B Elangbam stated that the announcement came following a meeting of State Level Monitoring Committee at secretariat south conference hall on Saturday.

The meeting reviewed the upcoming Kharif season and raised concerns over disrupted cultivation, agricultural insecurity, and the absence of compensation for farmers who were unable to cultivate in 2024 .

Discussions also focused on ensuring timely distribution of seeds, fertilisers, and other essential inputs, particularly in the Red Zone areas.

The farmers, who have been unable to cultivate for two consecutive years due to the crisis, are in deep distress, he added.

Emphasising the importance of addressing the farmers' plights and the need for unity in making collective decisions, he urged farmers and others affected by the crisis to attend the meeting and actively engage in the discussions.
