234th birth anniversary of Maharaja Narasingh observed

Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba has made a call for the people to emulate the spirit of collective sacrifice and unity for the motherland as displayed by brave Manipuri rulers during the time of the Seven Years Devastation (Chahi Taret Khuntakpa) .
The RS MP made the statement during the 234th birth anniversary of Maharaja Narasingh organised by the Maharaja Narasingh Memorial Committee, Imphal and Shri Shri Gopinathjee Temple Board at Sagolband Mabudhou Mantri Leikai today.
Main highlights of the event include offering of floral tributes before the portrait of Maharaja Narasingh and the presentation of Jalakeli Pala.
Addressing the gathering, Leishemba Sanajaoba said it is time for people to remember how Manipuri rulers like Maharaja Narasingh, Maharaja Gambhir Singh, Prince Herachandra and many other brave leaders united to liberate Manipur from the Burmese occupation.
It is time for the indigenous communities to unite and put aside any political or ideological differences.
He urged the Civil Society Organisations, political parties and the public to come together to save Manipur, reasoning that the prevailing situation is nothing short of the Seven Years Devastation.
On another note, he pointed out that the State Government observes the death anniversary of Maharaja Narasingh at Kangla in a grand way every year.
He expressed hope that the State Government would give similar treatment to the Maharaja's birth anniversary and observe it with the brave Manipuri ruler's descendants.
