Tension in CCpur village as adjoining villages clash

Tension prevailed at Charoi Khullen in Loktak Project area as unknown persons burnt thatched huts near Charoi Khullen village last night.
A police team from Loktak PS reinforced by 32 Bn CRPF posted at Loktak Project rushed to the area to guard the village, reports received here said.
The tension surfaced when some huts belonging to Charoi Khullen were burnt by villagers suspected to be from the neighbouring Seliyan and Kukimun villages.
The Naga-Kuki clash in 1987 had displaced the three neighbouring villages.
Villagers of Seliyan and Kukimun had returned, however, Charoi Khullen villagers returned back only in February this year after around 23 years.
It is believed that Seliyan and Kukimun villagers burnt the thatched huts alleging that the area where the field is being developed belongs to them.
Song Ngamlen, chief of Charoi Khunjao, another neighbouring village, alleged that villagers of Seliyan and Kukimun had set afire about five huts.
He informed that four Charoi Khullen villagers were taking shelter at the CRPF camp at Lamdan.
Loktak police along with CO of 32 Bn CRPF have also shifted some villagers to Charoi Khunjao as tension is high, reports said.Bishnupur SP Jayentakumar said that authority has called a meeting of the three villages tomorrow with the objective of settling the matter.
The meeting will be held in the premise of a church and will be attended by officials of Churachandpur DC office and members of the Autonomous District Council covering the area, he added.
