Imphal, December 02 2025:
The Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur (ICHAM) has never objected to fencing along the Indo-Myanmar international border, advisor Nongthombam Rajendro alias Boy has clarified.
During a press briefing held at Thangjing Hall, Manipur Press Club today, the former president of ICHAM claimed that during the Manipur conflict, defamatory statements have been against both him and ICHAM during talk shows broadcasted across different TV channels to gain political mileage.
According to the former president of ICHAM, on July 26, 2013, a team led by the Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur allegedly discovered that Manipur was losing territory due to reported faulty border fencing work undertaken by the Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) .
A subsequent press conference held on July 28 made the matter known to the public, he said.
On August 2, 2013, the Committee on Protection of Land in Border Fencing (CPLBF), Manipur was formed with representatives from 28 border villages in Ukhrul and 14 in Chandel district and a memorandum was submitted to the-then Chief Minister to take action in this regard.
Another memorandum was submitted to the Governor on August 28.Following this, the State Cabinet formed a high powered committee led by Principal Secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu.
The committee informed CPLBF that the fencing work carried out was merely "security fencing" and not "border fencing" .
Political parties also convened meetings to discuss the issue.
In response, CPLBF appealed for such security fencing to be constructed after proper surveys and demarcations to ensure no land/territory is lost in the process.
CPLBF made appeals for the concerned authorities to look into the alleged loss of Manipur territory, but no objections or hurdles were imposed in border fencing work, clarified N Rajendro.
In this context, he has urged people to stop making "false allegations" against him, ICHAM and CPLBF .
