Kut celebrated with pomp and gaiety at Chandel, Tamenglong districts

Stressing the need to preserve the rich culture and tradition, Water Resources Minister Letpao Haokip called upon all concerned to show utmost respect to culture .
Addressing the Kut celebration with the theme ‘Kut for Cultural Integrity,’ organised by District Kut Committee, Chandel at Sugnu, Letpao Haokip said, “Our culture is our identity.
Without culture, we are nobody.
So it is our bounden duty to preserve our culture and tradition in order to not lose sight of who we are.”
Ever since the Govt of Manipur declared Nov 1 as State Holiday, people from all walks of life, people from myriads of communities in the State could get the opportunity to celebrate the traditional festival of Chin-Kuki-Mizo people.
Kut has become a rallying point for togetherness and happiness .
Kut festival in its new avatar has become a gigantic showpiece of traditional as well as contemporary cultural extravaganzas, he said .
He appealed to all people and Kut revellers (Kutters) in particular to pray for peace and harmony in the State; for there can be growth and advancement in the land only if there is peace and harmony .
Amongst others, the Kut celebration at Sugnu was attended by MLAs K Leishiyo, K Robindro, H Dingo, N Indrajit, Rameshore as the guests of honour while ADC Chandel Member Ngamkholal Baite presided the function .
Shokhomang Haokip, president, Kuki Chiefs’ Association, Chandel was the ‘Kut Pa.’ Showcasing of colourful cultural items by different tribes inhabiting Chandel district marked the noon session .
The evening session of the Kut celebration was graced by MLA T Ranjit; Brig Neelesh Bhanot, DIG 28 Sector AR, L Ibomcha, Director, SAI, Ngamthang Mate, MDC, Limkhojam Haokip, MDC and Seithang Haokip, MDC .
The largest post-harvest festival of Chin-Kuki-Mizo group, Kut was also celebrated today with traditional fervour and fanfare at Tengnoupal district headquarters for the first time since the creation of this district.
The celebration was organised by Tengnoupal District Chavang Kut Celebration Committee, 2017 .
Addressing the gathering, Works Minister Thongam Biswajit said that about 40 tribes/communities in the State have their own culture and tradition.
He said that Kut is an important post harvest festival celebrated by the Kuki-Chin- Mizo communities with a message of peace and harmony .
Minister stated that the festival provides time to rejoice after tiresome year.
“Love and harmony should enable us to remove the difference amongst ourselves.
We all are children of the State, working together will bring development in the State,” he said .
He said that the newly created district may still face inconvenience regarding its administration.
Since running the district depends on financial condition of the State, it will take some time.
However, separate DRDA for Tengnoupal will be carved out from DRDA Chandel .
The Minister also assured to construct guest house at the district headquarters.
Regarding the pending works relating to PWD, Power, he assured speedy completion after due consultation with the Chief Minister .
He further encouraged all to think positively and sought active participation of all for the development of the State .
Kut marks the ending of the harvest season.
It is also a thanksgiving ceremony and prayers are offered for a bountiful harvest season and prosperity of the people .
Presentation of colourful cultural dances of various ethnic tribes and Kut beauty contest are the highlights of the celebration .
The celebration was also graced by Deputy Commissioner Kh Raghumani Singh as chief host, Superintendent of Police Dr S Ibomcha Singh, Chandel ADC Chairman Lhukhosei Zou, Chief of Tengnoupal, Village Elders and Churches leaders .
Pacho Kom, chief of Khudengthabi village was the Kut-Pa.
