Imphal, August 09 2015 :
The JCILPS has urged the State Government to introduce a new Bill which can effectively protect the indigenous people of Manipur from the onslaught of incessant influx.
JCILPS convenor-in-charge Kh Ratan has appealed to all the people of Manipur take the ongoing mass movement for implementation of ILPS or a similar mechanism to a higher trajectory.
He was speaking at the International Day of World's Indigenous People observed today at Manipur Press Club here.
He also urged the masses not to let the movement get derailed under any circumstances at any point of time.
No protesters should impede movement of media persons, people going for medical services and religious functions.
Ratan then appealed to all the protesters not to do anything which can project the ongoing movement in the wrong light.
JCILPS co-convenor BK Moirangcha pointed out how young student Sapam Robinhood paid with his life and how many other people suffered casualties in the course of the ongoing movement.
He demanded introduction of a fresh Bill which can effectively protect indigenous people of Manipur at the earliest and punishment of all the police personnel involved in the killing of Robinhood.
Indigenous people of Manipur would soon face a very uncertain future if the ever growing population of non-local people is not checked without any further delay.
It's crucial to take up all possible measures to protect the rights and interests of indigenous people from being snatched away by non-local people, BK Moirangcha said.
Another speaker questioned the State Government's reluctance to implement ILPS in Manipur.
There are hundreds and hundreds of Manipuri women who are ever ready to sacrifice their life until the ongoing movement achieves its objective, she added.
Those police personnel who unleashed brute force against protesters and dragged young girls by the hair should know that they would get fair a share of the benefit if the popular demand is fulfilled.
Another speaker called upon all the indigenous people to resist all attempts to subjugate the indigenous people.
Many other representatives of JCILPS and several civil society organisations were also present at the gathering.
Meanwhile, a mass rally was taken out today within Heingang A/C demanding enforcement of ILPS or similar mechanism in Manipur.
The mass rally organised by the Human Resource Innovative Front, Heingang Kendra started from Heingang Mayai Leikai and went past Kontha Khabam, Kairang, Laipham Khunou and Dingku Road before winding up at Lairikyengbam Leikai, the native place of Sapam Robinhood.
The protesters shouted slogans like "Implement ILPS in Manipur", "We condemn killing of the student", "Punish guilty police personnel", "Suspend police personnel who unleashed brute force against girl students" etc.
